How to Use the Calculator

Step-by-step guide to estimating your book sales

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1

Select Your Amazon Marketplace

Choose the Amazon store where your book is listed. We support 9 major marketplaces: US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Australia, and Japan.

Each marketplace has different sales volumes, so estimates vary by location.
Step 2

Choose Your Book Format

Select whether you're looking at a Kindle eBook, Paperback, or Hardcover edition. Each format has a separate BSR on Amazon.

Step 3

Enter Your BSR Number

Input the Best Sellers Rank from your book's Amazon product page. See below for how to find this number.

Step 4

Input Your Book Price

Enter the list price of your book. The currency automatically adjusts based on your selected marketplace.

Step 5

Enter Page Count

Input the total number of pages in your book. This is used to calculate printing costs for paperback and hardcover editions.

Step 6

Select Paper Type

For print books, choose between white or cream paper. This affects printing costs and your net earnings.

Step 7

Click Calculate

Hit the "Calculate Sales" button to get your instant results!

Step 8

How to Find Your BSR on Amazon

Your book's BSR can be found on its Amazon product page. Here's where to look:

For Kindle Books

  1. Go to your book's Amazon product page
  2. Scroll down to the "Product Details" section
  3. Look for "Best Sellers Rank" or "Amazon Best Sellers Rank"
  4. Note the number in parentheses (e.g., #5,234 in Kindle Store)

For Print Books (Paperback/Hardcover)

  1. Navigate to your book's product page
  2. Make sure you're viewing the correct format tab
  3. Scroll to "Product Details" or "Product Information"
  4. Find the "Best Sellers Rank" entry
  5. Use the overall "Books" rank, not category-specific ranks
Pro Tip: BSR updates hourly. For the most accurate estimate, check your BSR at different times of day to get an average.

Frequently Asked Questions

A "good" BSR depends on your goals, but generally: BSR under 10,000 is excellent (likely selling 5+ copies/day), 10,000-50,000 is good (1-5 copies/day), 50,000-100,000 is average (occasional sales), and above 100,000 may indicate sporadic sales.

Amazon updates BSR approximately every 1-2 hours. However, after a sale, you might see changes within 30-60 minutes. The ranking is always relative to other books' recent sales.

Kindle and print editions are ranked in separate categories. The Kindle Store and Books Store have different numbers of products and different buying behaviors, so the same sales volume results in different BSRs.

Our estimates are approximations based on industry research. Actual sales can vary by ±30% or more depending on genre, seasonality, promotions, and other factors. Use these as directional guidance, not exact figures.

BSR is highly sensitive to recent sales. A single sale can dramatically improve your rank, while hours without sales cause it to drop. Competition also matters—if other books sell more, your relative rank decreases.

Main factors include: number of recent sales (most important), time since last sale, sales velocity compared to other books, and marketplace activity. Reviews, page reads (KU), and browsing history don't directly affect BSR.

Yes! The only way to improve BSR is to increase sales. Strategies include: running promotions, advertising (Amazon Ads, social media), getting reviews, improving your book cover and description, and building an email list.

Not directly. Reviews don't influence BSR calculations. However, better reviews can lead to more sales by building trust with potential readers, which indirectly improves your BSR.

BSR (Best Sellers Rank) compares your book to ALL books in the store. Category rank compares you only to books in your specific categories. You can have a high BSR but still be #1 in a niche category.

Free downloads are tracked in a separate "Free" store ranking, not your main paid BSR. However, after the free period ends, the visibility boost may lead to more paid sales, improving your regular BSR.
